Master Cleanse: The Ingredients

The Master Cleanse consists of drinking a mixture of lemon juice, water, cayenne pepper and maple syrup for 10 days (minimum) and salt water (sea salt) flushes on a daily basis. The lemon drink provides nutrients to the body and allows for the overall cleansing. As you can imagine, the salt water flush cleans the colon and allows for the toxins to be removed.

Getting started you will need the items below. I easily found all of them at Whole Foods in Union Square last night for approximately $38. I did not buy the lemons yet as they were crazy expensive.

Sea Salt
This is for the Salt Water Flush. Organic is best.

Maple Syrup
Um, this was $19.99. Thanks Whole Foods.
It is very Important to have Grade B.

Senna & Black Tea

Senna is used as a natural laxative. It is taken at night and will aide in the flushing.

Black Tea can be used (although may be considered cheating) as a natural caffeine should you really need to ingest it in the mornings. Organic is best.

Cayenne Pepper Tablets
I am digesting them in the pill form rather than adding to the lemon drink.

Lemons you can find in most grocery stores so I didn't bother buying at WF. All other essential ingredients would be difficult to find and too annoying to run around the city and look for so I opted to buy them all in one convenient (and very fucking crowded) location.

Master Cleanse: The Last Supper

Yesterday was the the day before the Ease-In.

The Last Supper: My Final Real Eats before the Fast...
2 Cups of Coffee with Powder Creamer (no half and half in the office today)
2 Cups of Earl Grey Tea (office is fucking freezing)
Lunch: One Tofu, Arugala, Tomato & Vegan Mayonnaise Sandwich on Whole Wheat
Dinner: Tomato Soup paired with piece of Wheat Bread

Today: Ease-In, Day 1
Fast includes NO processed foods. Only fruits, vegetables and water.

Yup. Am easing in nicely today...I've only had blackberries and a lovely salad so far. I'll have steamed broccoli and salad for dinner.

Tomorrow: Ease-In, Day 2
Fast includes the same as today.

Day After Tomorrow: Ease-In, Day 3
Fast will only include orange juice and water.

Then real fast begins. No solid food 12 days.

Master Cleanse: Preparing...

For those of you joining me on the Master Cleanse please read the latest newsletter here. I also stumbled upon the site Master Cleanse Secrets which gives helpful hints and the option to buy the book, of course. A great secret I learned was the option to take the cayenne pepper in capsule form rather than adding it to the lemon and maple syrup drink. I am highly considering going this route.

My schedule for the fast is as follows:

December 30 - 1: Ease In
January 2 - 12: Master Cleanse (Super Goal: 12 days)
January 13- 16: Ease Out

January 17: Celebrate new health and energy in San Francisco!

More on Senna Tea tomorrow and ALL items needed for fast...

Craig's List Best of the Day...

FOUND - Briefcase w/ Odd Items

Date: 2008-11-27, 9:31AM PST

Large silver briefcase (metal). No locks. Odd items inside include a 14 inch length of plastic tube about one and a half inches in diameter, a solid rod of plastic about 20 inches long and a little under one and a half inches in diameter. Several tubes of KY jelly (don't ask me, I just found it). Here's the really odd thing: there were five Gerbils in a plastic container with breather holes in it. I put them in a mouse cage with some shredded wood chips, water, and food. Respond to this add so I can return your stuff. If no respone in a week, I'll give the Gerbils to the animal shelter and turn the rest of the stuff over to the Sheriff Dept. Thanks.

12 Days of Cleansing...

New Year Detox
Master Cleanse!

I am going to cleanse and fast from solid food via the Master Cleanse (aka: The Lemon Diet) on January 2, 2009. I'm going to cleanse and detox for ten days. I hope to push it to twelve days...

My fast will end January 14, 2009 then I'll ease-out and slowly begin to eat solid foods with fruits, nuts and juices.

January 2 - 3 Ease In
January 4 - 14 Cleanse & Fast
January 15 - 17 Ease Out

If you'd like to cleanse with me or read more on Stanley Burrough's detoxifying program you should do it here and here. I'll be writing about my experience on the Master Cleanse site but will do so on my blog with a daily log.

I want to begin the year fresh and rid my body of 2008 and all the poison I put in it. Please encourage and support me through this; I'm going to need it.

I hope you will enjoy reading about bowel movements...

Fuck.

Danke Shein Pass Kontrol!

Pass Kontrol
Lit Lounge
Saturday, Dec 20
11:00 pm

How 'bout you forget the lame office holiday party or gingerbread house competition and go see Pass Kontrol on Saturday night @ Lit Lounge instead? The last show was amazing - the energy in the room was electric! My personal favorites on the always eclectic set list were Helter Skelter and Susie Lou.

I am addicted to this band. Officially addicted.

Craig's List Best of the Day...

I have a huge bathroom.

Reply to:
Date: 2008-11-06, 4:01AM

I am a female in my mid 60's and I am looking for a room mate. Times are tight and I need some extra money.
I am willing to rent out my bathroom in my 1 bedroom east village home.
My bathroom is large. You can easily put a twin air mattress in there. I only ask that when I need to use the bathroom, you or your air mattress are not in it.
I do ask that when you are in the apartment, you confine yourself to the bathroom. I do not feel comfortable with a stranger walking around my living room. This might change as I get to know you better.
You may have guest over as long as they are cnfined to the bathroom as well. This might seem a bit odd but please remember the rent is $400 and the bathroom is large.

The Muslims are now The Soft Pack

The best things in southern California are the bean & cheese burritos, great weather, beautiful beaches and The Soft Pack. The San Diego native band, formerly known as The Muslims changed their name to The Soft Pack. I love their sound which incorporate great lyrics and a vintage garage surf rock sound. Perfect combination for good rock.

If you are lucky enough to find yourself of the west coast these days - don't fuck this up...GO see the Soft Pack.

Saturday Line Up...

Saturday night promises a few great local NYC bands to play some of my favorite places that fit nicely into my idea of the perfect venue: the darker, louder and cheaper - the better!

Lit Lounge: Gutz, Lady Magma, Electric Umbilical Cord [winner: best band name of the night] and Bushwick's own darlings Pass Kontrol.

Afterwards skip over to Cake Shop for Needy Visions, The Octagon and headliners The Homosexuals! Homos go on @ 11pm.

The night's line up promises for good tunes and excessive drinking on my part...

Long Lines to Vote for this Historic Election

A great article on the long lines to vote in New York City today from The New York Times.

I've been hearing some complaints about the machines, long lines, etc...all day today from NYC voters. The important thing to remember is we've waited EIGHT FUCKING YEARS for this - what is a few hours in a line worth bitching about?

It's a beautiful day America...

High Brow Punk Rock

Christie's auction house announced on Tuesday they will be auctioning off some of the punk rock era's most precious memorabilia. Included in the lots are 120 records, photos, promotional pieces, posters, etc...for legends such as the Ramones, Bowie, Velvet Underground and the Sex Pistols.

“We understand that tastes change, tastes mature,” said Christie’s pop-culture chief Simeon Lipman. “Ten years ago, punk memorabilia probably wouldn’t be something we’d be auctioning here. But now, people of a certain age have a certain ability to splurge on this material.”

Bids are expected to range in the low hundreds and upward thousands of dollars. View lots here.

It'll be interesting to see who bids on these historic relics of the 70's and 80's...and witness the tragic marriage of the anti-establishment and the boujis auction house.

Mission of Burma Still Got It...

Anyone fortunate enough to score entry into Rhapsody's party at the Music Hall of Williamsburg last night got fucking rocked by Matador's Mission of Burma. The Boston based band formed in the late 70's and they somehow still manage to maintain their edge and make you realize why they are the headliners...They unapologetically banged their instruments and shredded sounds that undeniably let the previous acts understand just who was in charge. MoB rocked their hard (and loud) guitar sounds but still found the ability to cradle it all in melodic genius. Brilliant.

Viva la Burma!

The evening's line up: Matador darling Jay Reatard (awesome sound and the night's one-to-watch), The Duchess and the Duke, King Khan and the BBQ Show and Mission of Burma.

The other bonus of the night: FREE fucking beers all night. Thank you for that one Jesus...

Bushwick's Starr - Pass Kontrol

Bushwick's darlings Pass Kontrol played an amazing show on Friday night at the Bushwick Starr.

The venue is located one block from the Jefferson stop on Starr Street. Keep an eye out though, the unassuming sign will allow you to walk right by it. Once inside the club, the space is generous and has ample seating right in front of the stage. Expect the usual, long lines to take a piss, etc...But the unexepted is the outdoor bar patio. There is an unusually large amount of space and the bartenders do a great job of keeping the $4 beers coming your way. The patio gets an A+.

After settling into the space and enjoying the ice cold beers - I was primed and perfectly buzzed to hear Pass Kontrol. They are a band I have not yet heard live and as a Bushwick transplant now this seemed unheard of. Pass Kontrol's sound is a perfect marriage of rock and pop that cradles itself in beautiful melodies. The band, obviously enjoying themselves, gave all of their rock blood at the Bushwick Starr and even found time to cover The Pixies' classic tune Where is My Mind. Danke Shein Pass Kontrol!

Opening acts were Pool of Frogs, Columbia and Lady Magma.

Follow upcoming tour dates on the band's blog.

McCain's Republican Running Mate Selected

John McCain has finally selected his Republican running mate. She is Alaska Governor Sarah Palin.

Clearly, McCain is attempting to pick up Hillary supporters with selecting a female but hell, I guess he's trying to also attract vikings and the voters who like to wear endangered animal skins too.

Sarah Palin is front and center of this photo adoring her frock. What an asshole.

Rattler in San Francisco

DC rockers Rattler are departing the East Coast for a quick tour of San Francisco. Well, they are just playing ONE night, September 7 at the Thee Parkside, but don't miss it. If you haven't caught a show of the talented duo then you are simply blowing it. All you heard about was that fucking show...Check out the original rock caldera on their upcoming tour dates.

Don't miss the NYC shows - it's nice to see the band has graduated beyond Cake Shop's basement, although those hot ass inferno gigs in stank air will be sorely missed...

Apartment Renovation: Bathroom Demolition Complete after 4 Days...

The first room to receive the most attention in my apartment renovation was the teeny tiny bathroom. The trouble spot consumes only 50 of the apartment's grandiose 505 square feet.

The room was plagued with awful baby blue tile that (lucky me) was discovered to be rotted throughout. My contractor unearthed THREE layers of tile and wall. The demo for the room took an entire 8 hours of solid back breaking work. The removal of the nearly 500 pound cast iron tub was an insane task. Items demolished: EVERYTHING.

Only a masochist would renovate a four story walk up in the middle of July in New York City...

The 80 year old building is not equipped with an elevator and this made demolition increasingly more difficult. I highly recommend hiring an outside subcontractor (or sub subcontractor) to remove and properly dispose of the construction waste. Extra cost for removal from my bedroom and into a proper disposal container: $300. This was money well spent as the bags of trash at the end of the day were taller than me.

The crumbling sub floor will have a new concrete slab tomorrow morning and will no longer resemble the nativity scene where baby Jesus was born.

Apartment Renovation: Day One

Day One. After much thought and consideration, the tiles have been selected for the bathroom (field, base trim, top trim and bullnose) and kitchen (floor) tiles from Nemo Tile. The prices are some of the best around - LANKA white 3 x 6 subway tile will run about $2.70 per square foot. Penny tiles (see image) run from $4.25 to $6.85 per square foot (mesh mounted). Please note, all prices are trade. Most ceramic tile from Nemo is in stock, so you can order it and have the tile delivered in three days in many cases. Tomorrow will be the first day of demolition. Bathroom and kitchen will be gutted completely. More on that soon...

I purchased The Dead Milkmen's Beelzebubba album (brand new shrink wrapped) about a year ago and listened to it with Matt Hanrahan while drinking a dozen or so canned beers in my apartment on a hot ass summer night. Our fun was magnified when we reminisced about listening to the original cassette tape a thousand times. You'll sing (or attempt) to every song on the record; this is a great listen and good times for a mere $6.50.

The only shitty thing about this album is that it's sold on a site called oldies.com. Fuck we're old.
