Kisses, yes please...

Porter Hovey has a new blog all about kisses. It's simply a love blog. How cute, how sweet, how lush and how utterly delightful is this? There are no rants, no raves, no complaints - simply kisses.

Kisses, yes please.

Beach Combers

This has been the year (and then some) of dreamy beachy barely produced sounds that have taken over the internets, airwaves, iPods, parties and shows. Brooklyn's own Beach Combers are not unique to the trend and admittedly sound much like LA's Best Coast but I love the uber nasally innocent lo-fi muddy blanketed sound they are making. Apparently, I don't want to let go of summer.

Like it? Download some of their tunes for free at Bandcamp here.

Forever Inspired...

The supremely talented illustrator Alessandra Olanow is a recent Brooklyn transplant and her beautiful Cobble Hill (my old neighborhood!!) brownstone is featured in Design*Sponge. The home is a perfect balance of mixed and varying textures from leather to wood to soft cottons. The design scales are balanced so evenly and beautifully this case.

Don't you just want to tuck yourself into those amazing Turkish linens featured above and gaze up at the old tin ceiling for a few hours? I know I do.

Enjoy the spread and beautiful light filled rooms here.

Si Juteux Succulents

Fr8Fr9
Summer has come and gone and now the cooler breezes and chilly Brooklyn nights are a clear indication that fall has arrived. Another obvious sign the new season is here are the colorful mums you can spot everywhere in bloom and for sale. Forget those! My sights are set on these gorgeous succulents. Images are from one of my favorite bloggers and the very talented photographer abby try again.

Aren't they just si si si juteux?

Deerhunter's Halycon Digest

Deerhunter's magical album Halycon Digest lands in record stores and the internets on September 28 on label 4AD, but you can listen to the album in its entirety now at NPR.

I swear unicorns died when this album was made; a little bit of their blood is sprinkled over it.

The Master Cleanse

Stanley Burrough's Master Cleanse is no joke. It is a ten day fast that cleans all of the toxins out of your body and flushes your colon to a new squeaky clean state. It is amazing. I mean truly truly amazing. Admittedly, I am an addict. I went 20 days last time with zero complaints.

The cleanse consists of only drinking water, freshly squeezed lemons, maple syrup (grade B) and cayenne pepper. Um, that's it. NO food. Not a morsel, nada. You can incorporate black tea, senna tea (a natural laxative) and water during your fast but that's it.

You also do 'salt water' flushes that aid in the cleansing of your intestines and colon. You feel so alert, alive, clean and energetic when you do this fast; trust me when I say it is worth every ounce of suffering. Only the strong survive on this and it truly is mind over matter.

Tomorrow is Day 1 of my 10. Bring it.

Guten Freitag

Costa Rican all-girl teen garage 'sensations' Las Robertas are set to release a newly mixed and mastered version of their lo-fi fuzzed out debut LP Cry Out Loud on the highly esteemed Art Fag Recordings on October 12th.

Check out their buzzing sound - simple but effective - on their new album which has a casual-cool air that's influenced in equal measure by the girls' (and my own) love for early-90's noise-pop (think: Black Tambourine & Sonic Youth) and the current crew of beach sound haze lo-fi girl groups (think: Vivian, Dum Dum Girls & Best Coast).

Anyway, happy Friday my dear friends and get buzzed and enjoy the sounds of Las Robertas this very fine evening. Kisses, Nanook!

Eames Dowel-Leg Base

MoMA's design shop is now offering the Eames classic molded plastic chair with a dowel-leg base. Can you say absolute perfection?

I can't decide between the red or the white. What an amazing design (and as a volunteer I get 60% off!!). The rocker is fantastic too, but these wooden legs are too much; I can not resist. Hmmm...red or white? red or white? red or white? red or white?

This dose of retail therapy will comfort the upcoming winter blues. YES to GREAT design!

Last Days of Summer

"Chesapeake" from Evenings on Vimeo.

It's September, the kids are back in school, the days are getting a bit shorter, summer is wrapping up, light jackets are being moved to the front of the closet, Labor Day is around the corner and the fall 'to do' lists are being created...

In honor of my favorite season, I'm posting this video gem and ode to the best time of the year from the Evenings. Goodbye summer. You were a good one this year and I look forward to embracing you again next time around.
